Accomplishments

Dr Katie Yang (Fong Yim Fun) was highly successful in her career and exemplified a deep passion for philanthropy. In her later years, she wholeheartedly dedicated herself to charity work through the Kwan Fong Charitable Foundation, a testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference. Alongside her good friend, Dr Maria Lee Tseng Chiu Kwan, she championed various causes and initiatives. Her role as the Honorary President of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong and her numerous other awards are a testament to her impactful work. Dr. Katie Yang is truly beloved for her lifelong dedication to philanthropic and charitable activities. 

Achievements and Awards

1984

Formed the Kwan Fong Charitable Foundation. The Foundation actively raised funds by promoting art, concerts, and education. The Foundation supported hospitals, schools, and homes for the elderly and mentally or physically challenged. 



1987

Charity concert at the Lee Theatre raising HK$12 million to benefit charitable causes



1988

Started raising HK$40 million in funds to support numerous projects including a permanent place for the use of the Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong 



1994

Organised charity Cantonese Opera performances at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre to raise funds for the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Foundation and the Kwan Fong Charitable Foundation. The concerts raised an incredible HK$$26.4 million in two nights. The Foundation gave funds to music departments of local universities to promote Chinese culture and opera and for community projects.



1994

Sponsored the SAGE Kwan Fong Nim Chee Home for the Elderly, Shatin and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kwan Fong Kai Chi School.



1995

Funded and opened the Kwan Fong Gallery of Art and Culture in the Soiland Humanities Centre at California Lutheran University, USA



1995

Doctorate of Humane Letters from the California Lutheran University, USA



1995

Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) UK



1998

Honorary University Fellow of the Hong Kong University (HKU)



1998

Honorary Fellowship of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. 



2003

Bronze Bauhinia Star (BBS) from the HKSAR Government



2004

Doctor of Social Science from Lingnam University, Hong Kong



2012

Created The Art of Fong Yim Fun Sustainability Project, Shaw College of The Chinese 

University of Hong Kong



2013

Doctor of Social Science (DSSc) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong



2014

Opened the Fong Yim Fun Art Gallery in Shaw College of the Chinese Univerity of Hong Kong
