In 1959, Dr Katie Yang Leung Yin Fong (Fong) ended her career as a Cantonese Opera performer and movie star to marry Dr Raymond Kyung Waung Yang.
Dr Yang was a specialist cardiologist physician in Hong Kong. He was born in Shanghai, China, the son of Po Keng Yang, a textile merchant. Dr Raymond Yang was educated at St Stephen's College in Hong Kong and went to Edinburgh University in the UK to study medicine. Dr. Yang was a widower with three children. He was a well-known physician and community giver. He was also a Justice of Peace. Fong met Dr Yang, and in 1959, Fong retired from the stage to marry with a last performance of Cantonese Opera - The Legend of the White Snake.
After Fong married, she dedicated her early married life to raising her own four children (Simmone Katie, Bessie, Robert, and Richard) and three stepchildren (Raymond Jr., Elizabeth, and Marianne). Dr Raymond Yang passed away in 2015 at 100 years old. However, Fong has loyal and loving children both in Hong Kong and overseas, as well as ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
When all her children were grown up, she dedicated her life to charity work. Fong is an example to her children and all who know her for providing unconditional love and care for those around her. She is a testament to kindness, hard work, and determination.
