Together with her friend Dr. Maria Lee Tseng Chui Kwan, the Kwan Fong Foundation was created. With the support of her fellow friends and charitable figures, Fong produced books, records, and tapes, as well as Chinese charity art sales. They painted all of the art and made stage appearances to raise funds for needy people. Their generosity and enthusiasm, especially for charity work, inspire us all. Together, using their own hard work,  they raised almost HK$80 million, all for helping schools, hospitals, and the needy.

Education & Special Needs

Dr Katie Yang and Dr Maria LEE Tseng Chui Kwan founded the Kwan Fong Charitable Foundation.

In 1985, they established a subsidiary foundation in the USA. To promote East Asian culture, the Kwan Fong East Asian Research Centres were established at Lutheran College in California and Pace University in New York.

A more recent scholarship (2022) is the Dr Katie Yang—Fong Yim Fun Scholarship Fund at Barnard University in New York, which is for students majoring in East Asian Studies with outstanding academic achievements.

In 1984, Dr Yang helped support the Halemano Plantation in Honolulu, USA, with her good friend and experienced and dedicated educator, Mrs Susanna Cheung. The Halemano Plantation is in a beautiful environment and is a training college, home, and workplace for persons with developmental disabilities to learn how to integrate into the real world.

In the 1990s, The Foundation supported the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kwan Fong Kai Chi School in Hong Kong, which is still running well.

Elderly

Most notably, in Hong Kong, the Foundation has supported SAGE Kwan Fong Nim Chee Home for the Elderly in Shatin. This facility provides residential care and facilities for those who cannot live at home for health, social, and other reasons. Its goal is to maintain the health of older adults as far as possible and assist them with their varying personal care needs and daily living activities. It also aims to meet the social and recreational needs of the residents and promote interpersonal relationships among residents in the homes. Dr Yang's and Dr Lee's family and children fully support this and participate in the annual functions at the home.

Emergency Needs

Fong set up the Kwan Fong Trust Fund for the Needy in the Social Welfare Department, and today, although the Kwan Fong Foundation is now closed, Dr Lee and Dr Yang transferred the remaining proceeds to the "Kwan Fong Emergency Assistance Fund" and gave it to the Social Welfare Department of Hong Kong for management. This fund is still operating to meet community needs.

The Kwan Fong Charitable Foundation was a testament to the founders' dedication to helping the community.
